Avery Elle Summer of Stamping Blog Hop

Hello Friends, and welcome to the Ellen Hutson Summer of Stamping blog hop, featuring the exclusive Peek-a-Boo Pals Camp Wanna Stamp set from Avery Elle that I've used to make an interactive light-up card! You may have come from the blog of Heather Campbell, but if not feel free to start at the very beginning with the EH Blog.

Just like my last light-up card of the fox who got too close to the fire (and burnt the marshmallow for his s'more), there is a story for this card as well. Fox and Bear are friends who start out fishing together, but they have so much fun they lose track of time, and day has turned to night. As they paddle back to shore, the bear turns his lantern on, but the fox is chuckling because the stars are already lighting their way back home.

So with all that in mind, when you move the canoe to the left (aka, back to shore) the bear's lantern turns on!

Here are the mechanics under the card. The canoe is adhered to the white slider that has copper tape on the bottom. There is also a gap in the copper tape on the bottom of the white card base. When the canoe slides, the copper tape on the slider will bridge the gap and turn the lantern on.

This set is so cute with four different critters, canoe, and all sorts of camping gear. The stars are embossed across the sky. To break it up a bit I colored some of the stars with a light blue copic marker.

I used the Essentials by Ellen Constellation Background Die, and think it really helps break up all the navy blue area that would have been plain sky.

One thing to note, when I was originally planning this card, I was careful to think about the sliding mechanism, and where the cut out on the navy cardstock would be that allows the light to show thru for the lantern. It was important for me to have the cut out hidden for most of the time, until the lantern was moved right over it. Otherwise, a hole in the middle of the card wouldn't look terribly attractive. Hiding the cut out behind the bear worked out really well.

Here's a good shot of the lantern without the lights on. I stamped the lantern on vellum, and then added cardstock for the top and bottom. The flame on the vellum is colored with orange and yellow.

This was a fun card to put together. I like when sets come with a lot of accessories, like the fishing pole and fish. I feel I have more options, so I don't always have to use a canoe scene, and could just have a scene with someone fishing.

Here's a quick video showing the lantern turning on! My battery is not the best, which explains the flickering. I was going to change it, but then realized this is the perfect depiction of a flickering lantern!

This set is only available at Ellen Hutson as a stamp only set or as a stamp and die combo set. This set also coordinates with other Peek a Boo Pals sets in the Avery Elle line, so you can add to your collection.
