More Teen Boy Birthday Cards

Hi Folks! Teen boy birthday cards continue to be in high demand at our house, so I've been trying to focus on making more of those. This time, since I had a design that I was happy with, I left the stamps on the misti and just kept on making these one layer cards. Let's take a look!

As sad as I was when Michele retired my favorite Rad set, you can imagine how thrilled I was when she announced she was bringing it back, only better than ever! Rad 2 is full of great words that you can mix and match like I've done here to get the exact message you want. 

I die cut a large star from Stars Fri-Dies and used that as a template to blend the vibrant Catherine Pooler Inks onto the card.

 I tried some warm, pretty colors, and voila, a teen girl card!

Sometimes I'd make a mistake and sponge ink outside of my stencil (see the large pink strip under "totally") but instead of tossing it like I would have done years ago, I've learned to embrace these telltale signs that it's a handmade card. Especially on a grungy, laid back card like this.

It was fun trying different color combinations.

And I love that they are all one layer. Couldn't be easier!

It was also exciting to see what different shades of color would appear where the stars overlap. I think those overlapped areas make the cards more interesting.

Calling All Sistahs

Hi Folks! It's the 17th of the month, and time for a reminder to check yourself or get yourself checked! This month, Michele is up to something very secretive. In fact, none of us even know about it! Go check the new Calling All Sistahs Blog, where I am headed, to see what the heck is going on!

This month's card uses the new set Floating, featuring a hot air balloon full of pink flowers, floating over a hill of green flowers. The green flowers are actually stamped from the hot air balloon, in case you're wondering why they look so similar. The splatters are meant to represent all the floating things you'd see on a beautiful, sunny summer day (like dandelion seeds, which are beautiful until you become and adult with a lawn and then they become terrorizing!)

A Collection of Birthday Cards

  

Hello! Umm, I went a little nuts making birthday cards recently. 

All DOZEN of them center on this main formula for the sentiment. "happy" from CAS-ual Fridays Calm and Gentle, "birthday" from Shenanigans, and "i think you're amazing" from Mon Ami. I started by stamping a dozen of these panels in different colors.

Then I picked out out several papers that had strong patterns and matched them up with the sentiment panels. I also picked out a border, like this one from Lovely Links Fri-Dies, and placed it between the sentiment and the patterned paper. For some of the cards like this one, I stopped there.

 

 Or like this one which would be perfect for a teen. A little bit of glitter paper and that's all you need with these strong diagonals.

 

Here we have a layered snowflake (Flurry), flower (Friendly Flowers) and sequin.

Punched out bottle caps from patterned paper work well for a teen card. The border on this one is from Linked Fri-Dies.

I can't wait to give this one to my mom! I found a word with seven boxes and wrote "amazing" to go along with the stamped sentiment. 

This one was fun! Dangling fall leaves and misc. embellishments via a gold wire makes for some nice movement when you open the card. Leaves are from Acorn Fri-Dies.

Ribbon is another idea to use between the sentiment and the patterned paper.

This one is a little more involved, only because instead of patterned paper, the panel is made with smooshed and spattered ink. The cluster of embellishments is from Friendly Flowers, Girlfriend, and CASual Trees Fri-Dies. How funny that the gold leafy die looks very similar to the ink spatters just to the right of it.

  

A strong, busy design like this just gets a border from Linked Fri-Dies.

 
And finally, this sky-themed card has a giant, sparkly star from Stars Fri-Dies and Twinkle to go along with the puffy clouds. This one would be great for kids. Who doesn't want to feel like a star on their birthday?

Whew, you made it! There were a couple more cards that I didn't feature individually, but I think you've probably gotten the idea by now, hahaha! Once I find an element that I'm really happy with, like the sentiment panel, it seems a shame not to duplicate it while I have everything out and set up. These would also make wonderful gift sets.
