New Essentials by Ellen - Little Gentleman

Hi Folks! I sure had fun Copic coloring the new Little Gentleman from Ellen Hutson! Perhaps one of the reasons is because he's a boy, and doesn't require fancy patterned clothes. Or maybe because he's smaller than the adult Leading Ladies. Or maybe just because I'm a boy-mom and am more comfortable thinking about boys and what they look like. Regardless, I'm really quite fond of this new installment in the Leading Ladies series at Ellen Hutson!
First off, those bright yellow puddle jumpers!! : ) Wasn't exactly sure how to color them so I just used two different shades of yellow and then added lots of shiny highlights with a white get pen. His puddle is embossed in silver and is splashing on the sentiment. His toy Dinosaur is tucked in his arms, which is totally something both of my boys did when they'd go outside to play. I love that there are several sentiments in this set that fit perfectly on the flag that he can hold, like this Play All Day declaration. Finally, my boys always have something written across the front of one of their T-shirts, so I masked off the sides of the sweatshirt and stamped a random sentiment across the front. Totally looks like them now!
The background of the card is also the sentiment. I stamped "HAPPY" on the bottom of the card, and simply kept stamping up the card without reinking until the ink ran out! The remainder of the sentiment, "birthday wishes," goes across the bottom. Finally, I popped up a tiny die-cut paper airplane (ACK!!) to fly across all the happy's.
I was flipping through my other sets to see what else this gentleman could hold, and I came across the recent Hang On set. It dawned on me that I didn't necessarily need to find an item for him to hold, but I could find a sentiment that talked about holding something!

The end of his rope! After adhering the rope on top of his hand, I stamped and cut a second hand to put on top. Totally worked like I planned. Similar to the first gentleman, I also added a logo to his t-shirt. This one I curved a little as well.
I was so excited to also have the branches from Backyard Friends available to have something to dangle the rope from. Because of the parallel lines on the branch, I'm thinking this is a birch tree, and white, so I created several masks to lay over the branches and blended some blue ink over them. It's nice to not have brown branches all the time. Finally, the layered mountains are made by lining up the Alpine Windows die.
One additional thing I thought I'd share is how I've started storing the additional extras that come with the main person in these Leading Ladies set. Once I have all the stamps lined up with the dies, I'll stamp them 4-5 times to have a nice selection of accessories. Initially I stored these in plastic pockets, but it was rather a pain to dig the ones out that you need. So I have them set up on a piece of chipboard and lightly adhered on top of each other. Now, when I need to create a card, it's so much easier to get started!
Here's a recap of all the projects I made for this release. As you can see, I really enjoyed creating with these sets in the March Release, and highly recommend them!

New Essentials By Ellen - Grand Lady and Little Gentlemen

Hi Folks! Well, as you may have anticipated, with the Grand Gentleman and Little Lady being released last month, this month's release features the Grand Lady and the Little Gentleman! The Grand Lady is all tricked out with things to bake and knit, and has several sweet sentiments.
I decided to go with a knitting theme for this lady (who isn't necessarily "grand.") Yes, I realize she's holding a needlepoint project, and knitting needles. She's just multi-talented, and able to work on a few different projects at the same time : ) Much like my grandma!
One of the stamps is a pearl necklace, so I used that in conjunction with some glossy accents to bring it to life. The sweater is somewhat ombre, like an actual sweater I have in my closet, and has several "v's" to represent chunky stitches. Like many of the other Leading Ladies, I love that the cooresponding die cuts her arm out so she can hold things, like her needlework.
It's so fun looking for dress details in older sets that you already own. I tried out the heart seaweed stamp from Otter Ware as a trim on the bottom of her dress, and really love how it turned out! The skeins of yarn look cute as a die cut. I took the liberty of adding my initials to the label going around the yarn.
For the background I cut out a heart from copy paper and used that to blend and spatter ink into. Still loving those Life Changing Blender Brushes!
How cute is the Grand Lady with her Grandson?! Love how they work together, and in this case are fist bumping (only the Grandma is using her wooden baking spoon to knock knuckles) : ) The background panel and letters are from Letterboard Set.
Let's take a look at the Grand Lady, as there are several things different from the first card:
1) gray hair - she's a little more grand now;
2) eyeglasses - a nice touch to help represent the loved one you're sending this too;
3) neck scarf - instead of a pearl necklace, this lady is sporting a tied scarf around her neck;
4) pattern on dress!! - looking through my older sets, I came across the tiny mollusk pattern stamp from the S'Whale set. Perfect! I made a mask by cutting the dress portion out from the image stamped on copy paper, and then placed that image on top of the stamped image on the card. After blending ink on the dress, I stamped the mollusk pattern through the mask, and what do you know, created a fun pattern on her dress in the perfect scale.

The boy is in a sweatshirt (naturally) over a t-shirt. Similar to the mask for the grand lady, I made a mask for the little gentleman and cut the middle shirt section out. Then I stamped a random sentiment to make it look like he's wearing a custom tee. I had my oldest son in mind when I made him, so I have him carrying a football, with a frog at his feet (he was always chasing after butterflies, dragonflies, frogs, worms, anything he could to keep as a temporary pet).

Again, I just love how they go so well together, and how you can totally recreate your own family.

Stay tuned for tomorrow where I'll be sharing a few cards featuring the little gentleman!
