Middle School Graduation Card for a Boy

Hi Folks! I've been working on a middle school graduation card for my cousin's son. Ever since the kids were little, they've enjoyed playing cards at our family camper, so I thought the In the Cards set from CASual Fridays would be perfect for his card.

The MISTI stamping tool came in so handy for making this set of cards! I was able to keep the large and small spade and the same spot every time, and then just switch out the different numbers. I have to be honest, usually I'm too lazy to get out the MISTI for stamping, but for this situation it was a life-saver.

I just put the cards in the pocket so they would be removable. You may also notice that I've invented a new suit of cards ... red spades! His school colors are red. It's definitely not the case that I got mixed up : )

Seriously, could the Tin Roof background stamp be more perfect for the backs of cards?! I think I even have some actual playing cards that look like this!

You could also stick in some money here, or potentially swap out the 10 card for $10. I could go either way on this version.

First Cell Phone?!?!

I kid you not. You read that correctly. Up until about 2 weeks ago, I had never owned a cell phone. Ever.

At first it was because I didn't want to pay for one. This was back in the mid-late 90's when I was hard at work at my first (and only) job out of college.

Then I realized I didn't really like talking on the phone that much, so I didn't see the point.

Logistically, they were a challenge to keep track of since I also don't carry a purse.

Once the smart phones came out, it seemed like many people were on their phones all the time, and missing what was going on around them. Or ignoring the person sitting across from them at the table.

Most recently, it was a sort of identity. I was the only person everyone knew who didn't have a cell phone.

So what changed? Well now that my kids are getting older and more independent, it's getting more challenging to stay in contact with everyone I need to. And I did start feeling bad that the 12 year-old was the only one in his grade without a phone (sadly, that's not an exaggeration). It was fairly easy to deny his incessant requests for a phone, however. "I don't have one and I'm 45 years old. Why would you need one?" : )

Calling All Sistah's Blog Hop

Hi Folks! Did you remember? It's the 17th of the month ... time to check yourself! And to have fun hopping on the CAS-ual Fridays Calling All Sistahs blog hop : )

For this card, I used the ribbon and sentiment from Hope Ribbon. The ribbon is stamped in a few different colors. I love the large size of it, which easily fills your card without much effort at all. I wanted to play up the "you are loved" sentiment, so I colored in all the hearts that are part of the ribbon design. I kind of felt like a hidden shape puzzle, searching for all of those hearts. Fun!

At this point in my card-making process, I usually step back to assess whether or not it needs sequins. Most of the time I'll add them, but in this case, I was happy to see how the pink hearts ended up filling in for my well-loved sequins.

As such, it remains a true one-layer card. Woo-hoo!
