Hi Friends! I am very honored to help Altenew celebrate its sixth birthday this week! In light of these trying times, there was consideration to cancel the celebrations, but Altenew thought this could also be an opportunity to spread a little joy to those who are looking for it. You might want to check out Altenew's video with their efforts to help support relief organizations on the front lines. Just one more reason to love this heartfelt and amazing company!
You may have arrived from the blog of Nicole Picadura, but if not feel free to start at the beginning with the Altenew Blog.
This birthday card is for Altenew with my favorite Build-a-Flower set, the Sunflower Daisy. Instead of 6 candles to celebrate, there are 6 beautiful flowers! With this tall card, I wanted to create the feeling of a garden gate with all the flowers spilling over it.
Here's a peek at how it came together. On the base I stamped the Pen Sketch Mandala set in green for the foliage that you'd see behind the gate. The bottom of the card is filled in with the circular center stamp. I didn't care so much that the images overlap since it's not noticeable once the gate is layered on top.
The gate was made with plain white strips of paper. I cut the corners on the top of the strips, and laid several strips next to each other. Then I adhered two strips of paper horizontally to hold all the strips in place, much like an actual gate. The longer diagonal strip is just the right size to hold the sentiment.
The real star of this card, however, are these gorgeous layered sunflowers! The Sunflower Daisy set is probably my favorite Build-a-Flower due to its amazing realism, and uncomplicated layering. There's no other set like this in my collection.
These flowers just make me happy : ) Like the leaf clusters, I made a bunch of the flowers when I first got the set and have a stack of them ready to use on my desk.
I played around with where to put the sentiment for awhile before I finally realized it would fit perfectly on the gate. It's nice to try and incorporate the sentiment with your design when possible. I ended up layering a thinner strip on top to allow the sentiment to stand out a little more.
