Hi
Folks! Each month at Winnie & Walter we feature a previously
released set and host a challenge (either with that set, or something
that inspires you from the featured projects). This month we're
featuring Mini Scenery: Madison which is a great stamp to get if you like the image and don't necessarily want to pay for all the other little extra stamps. For this card I embossed the image in white and then went to town with my Zigs to watercolor the spaces.
I'm a pretty analytical person, who takes a long time to make decisions, so I knew if I didn't do something different this process would have taken me hours (as crazy as that sounds!) Picking a different color for each scallop and border adds up to a lot of different colors to coordinate. So to make sure I still had time left in the day for things like, oh I don't know, sleeping, I made a deal with myself that I'd in general go in a rainbow order and would only take a minute deciding on the next color. I could test it out on a swatch paper (mental note: need to make a swatch card!) and if that color didn't work I had one more chance to pick a different one. Challenge accepted!
I think it turned out OK for the most part, although I definitely would not have gone with the yellow and orange at the top had I not run out of chances. I actually had another row of orange scallops that I was really uncomfortable with, so I cut those off. That ended up working well because now I had room for my sentiment without having to layer it over the scallops like I was thinking. It was meant to be! The tiny, understated "hip hip hooray" is from one of my favorite sets Party On with Evelin T Designs.
Be sure to check out the Winnie & Walter blog
for details on how to participate in the monthly rerun challenge, and
win a $25 gift card. Also, don't forget that Mini Scenery: Madison is currently on
sale all month!
