w&w: Addie's and Maggie's Gorgeous Blooms

Folks, we've got more flowers!! Another amazing floral stamp set is being showcased at Winnie & Walter called In Bloom: Addie's Garden. The first two cards are from that set.

 

I really like how this one turned out ... it's not like most of the cards I make. I chose to not color in 100% of the spaces and left some white in the flowers, leaves and stem. I like the sketchy look it gives. Also, it made the coloring go so much quicker, since for each petal I put my marker on the end and flicked it in toward the center in one stroke. Then moved on to the next petal. To finish it off I drew an outline around the flowers with a black pen.

Do you believe it's another one layer card!?! That's, like, three days in a row for me!!  This card is a little different than the first, where the sentiment is stamped instead of die cut, and I've added gold ink drops. It was the first one I made and I wasn't as happy with the middle stem being curved and the leaf being so far to the right. But I made an effort to finish it anyway to make the most of my scraps.  The background is filled in by inking through the V for cheVron Creative Screening.

This floral is a beauty too!! One of the first things I bought for my apartment 20 years ago was a basket of silk hydrangeas. I was on a tight budget, so I think I spent $2 at a garage sale for it. It was charming, nonetheless, and I wanted to recreate it as soon as I saw the stamps. I dabbed them with a bunch of different blue, purple and pink watercolors and the fussy cut them. For the basket, I didn't have a stamp, so I thought the texture of burlap was a good enough substitute to give that feel. The In a Word: Hugs cutaway that was debuted yesterday is the perfect sentiment, since stamping on burlap seems quite a challenge : ) I added "sending" right to the cutaway to make it more compact and tied in.

It was so liberating NOT to fight the paper warping with the watercolors. I actually wanted it to bow out for some dimension. A couple Pretty Pink Posh sequins and we're all set!

  
  
Can I tell you how much I love the In Bloom: Maggie's Roses Cutaway?!? Be sure to check out Julie's touching background on her inspiration for this set! Still in love with the distress ink smooshing, I inked up an acrylic block, dropped water on it and smooshed the paper to the block to form the background for these lovely roses.

Here's what it looked like going through the Sizzix. In a couple minutes you've got 6 blooms with white outlines. Since they were so quick I chose to use them ALL on my card (I tend to hoard things, so it's big for me to use things in quantity).

OK, I must have hoarded one of the blooms, as I'm only counting 5 on here : ) Anyway, the In a Word: Friend die is also used as a simple sentiment. I cut 4 layers of chipboard for extra height and then put the white cardstock layer on top.
