Altenew Love & Friendship Stamps/Dies/Stencils/Embossing Folders Collection Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello Friends! Boy do we have some sweet treats today from the new Altenew Love and Friendship Collection! 

 You may have come from the one and only Laura Bassen, but if not, feel free to start at the beginning with the Altenew Card Blog. 

With all the amazing layered floral stamp sets Altenew is famous for, I was elated to see a LAYERED ICE CREAM set!! Birthday cards are my most often made card, and this sweet dish of ice cream is perfect for those celebrations.

That it can be used for masculine cards makes this even more of a must-have set. You get four different scoops of ice cream (I chose to make mine neapolitan!) and a cut little dish/spoon that also has a set of layered stamps for the silver details and shadows. 

What a well thought-out and useful set!

Another great set for birthdays is the Modern Greetings Stamp Set ... is that not the best gigantic birthday sentiment? But wait, there's more ...

A debossing folder that matches! In this case I used the opposite side, where the text is raised, instead of the other side where the text is sunk in. It's up to you and the look you're going for. With all the letters and curves, the raised text is a real inviting addition to the set, and the large size really fills the card easily.

The secondary sentiment is one of a number of different options from the same Modern Greetings Stamp Set. And on this card I added a layered chocolate candy from the Sweet Love Stamp Set.

 

Perfect for someone who's not into florals and super feminine designs. 

 

My final card features two more new items:

How awesome is the detail on the slim deco cover die?! Do you just want to use it to frame every darn thing on your slimline cards? If you like the look of slimlines, but think it's just too much space to easily fill up, a frame like this is a great way to break it down and make the space more manageable.

The lowercase alpha dies are in a versatile, fun font, and are narrow enought to fit a lot of letters on a card front. Love this Sweet Thang : )

Did you also notice the rose on the ground? That's part of the layered ice cream set too! You just get everything in that darn set!

What's a Seamless Stencil and Why Do I Need One?

 
Hi Friends! I'm a big fan of getting the most out of my supplies, especially when you have limited funds to purchase them, and limited space to store them. One of the products from the latest Pinkfresh Studio release that pulls double duty is the Seamless Floral Panel Layering Stencil Set. This stencil is specially constructed to seamlessly repeat the pattern and produce an unlimited length of stenciled creation!

This photo shows how the A2-sized stencil can fill a taller slimline card just by lining up the bottom of the stencil with the top of where you left off stenciling. The seamless nature of this stencil opens up a world of possibilities ... you can stencil the length of a scrapbook page, the width of a drawer, along the edge of a lampshade, whatever you can dream up!

Especially now that the new slimline-sized card is popular, I love the fact that I don't have to buy a slimline-specific product. You can't at all tell the pattern is repeating.

For the sentiment of this card, I used the Essentials: Classic Word Die Set adhered onto the Essentials Ornate Banner Die Set. To ground the sentiment I blended some ink over the
Diamond Plaid Stencil Set.

This card is for the January 2021 Challenge, which is a good one if you haven't taken a look at it yet. It contains the entire 2020 year's worth of challenges; you just need to pick one! I chose the August 2020 challenge of florals. There is certainly something for everyone here!

Hello Friends! I hope you've had a wonderful holiday and new year! I've taken a break over the holidays to help my husband take care of his dad's estate. He passed away suddenly a month ago, and we have been surprised at all there is to manage. It's been our full time job. But it's been fun going through old photos, family history, boxes of old cuff links, great aunt Louise's pink depression glass, and the remaining contents of a small community grocery store that his family owned from the early 1900's to the 1980's. 

Both the title of this blog hop, and my outlook for this year, align completely. Fresh. Start.

I don't often get personal on the blog, so thanks for lending an ear. Now let's see some new Altenew products!

With the popularity of the first Versatile Vases stamps and dies, you knew there was going to be another set! Welcome Versatile Vases 2! This one doesn't disappoint. I love how large the vases are, as they can be used on their own, or in conjunction with other vases.

Here I've used the vase in a different way than you might expect, like with all the famous Altenew florals. For these cards, they are instead shaped bubble gum containers! I had so much fun making them!

The best part is, you don't need any additional products for this option to stretch your supplies! I just punched a hole in a piece of copy paper and started blending ink in all different colors. 

I did make a few mistakes where the colors turned out muddy because I blended green ink through the same hole I just blended red ink. (NOTE: don't do this! I'm sure you already know this : )) To fix my mistake, I punched a few circles of blended cardstock and adhered them right on top of the offensive gum ball. For the card with the blue inside, you can see the cluster of orange, yellow and green gum balls are cardstock that I layered over the stencil. 

And guess what? This turns out to be an easier way to make this card, instead of fussing with the stencil!

This set of cards features the new Ribbon Waves 3D embossing folder. I just love all the texture!! You really want to touch it and run your fingers over the waves. I may have spent several minutes doing this!

This is a great formula for making thank you notes, which I typically tend to keep simple because I'm making a lot of them after the holidays.

I just followed one of the waves on the bottom with my scissors to expose a colored piece of paper (you could also use patterned paper here), and then added one of the new sentiments from the Simple Greetings Dies.

Finally, on this card I used the Airbrushed Flowers set to create a beautiful background of finely detailed florals. The layered stamps that create the airbrushing effect are very striking, but I really enjoy when the outline image is as gorgeous as this and can stand on its own. You really get two different looks from your stamp set this way!

The "Hello" sentiment is also from the new Simple Greetings set. I layered the sentiment over a cutting from the new Grid Cover Die and really adore how this adds a little bit of interest to the card, as opposed to using a plain strip of paper. You can use all of the Grid Cover Die for an entire background of a card, or just a snippet like this where you need it.

Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Tulips Outline Stamp Set & More Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

This was a fun image to paint, with a nice mix of tiny flowers in the purple daisies and pink berries, and open flowers in the fuchsia tulips. 

 

I originally colored the purple daisies a darker shade that didn't turn out well, so I stamped the flowers again, fussy cut the two bad flowers, recolored them, and adhered them right on top. Problem solved!

After I was done painting the flowers, I knew it needed something a little extra to finish it off. This new-ish Delicate Stripes washi tape is the perfect finishing touch. Just the right amount of stripes. And at only $2.50 it's a good one to keep in mind when you need a little something extra to make the free shipping!

Altenew Bursting With Creativity Stand-alone Dies Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello Friends! I'm always so excited for the Altenew stand alone die releases, because you can count on them to bring us such fun new toys to play with! This release is no exception and will keep you busy in your craft space well into the post-holiday quietness.

Bursting with Creativity Die Set

There a little bit of everything in the Bursting With Creativity Die Bundle ... background dies, focal dies, edgers, and even some new masking paper and double sided adhesive!

 Here's a look at five projects featuring these new dies:

1) Just Leaves Die Set  and  Layered Wood Flower Die Set

I'm a sucker for the layered floral die sets, and this Layered Wood Flower is a snap to use. Due to all the detail, only two different layers are needed for the main floral section, and two layers for the center section. The top layer is also fairly wide so it's easy to adhere.

What I was honestly most excited about is the Just Leaves die set. You can never have too many leaves!! And this set gives you about a million different combinations for the various flowers you create. I enjoyed making these in shades of mustard to rust, with a pale yellow bloom.

Did you notice the background? It's the Dots and Boxes background stamp from a recent release, embossed in gold. All those tiny bumps are just begging you to run your fingers over! And I love that it's not over powering, with as busy a focal point as this is, with all the colors, leaves, and sentiments. 

2. Woven Heart Die Set

This die was the first one I used! I couldn't wait to see how the Woven Heart Die would work, and what it would look like after you wove all the strips. Not disappointing! I had so much fun trying different papers and textures that before you knew it, I needed to make a slimline card to show them all off!

 

The die comes with a cute little cut-out for the top of the heart that you may chose to use, or leave solid. For the purple and gold glitter paper on the left, I used the cut-out piece to emboss a subtle pattern on the top, and for the other two hearts I cut the pieces out. You can use patterned papers to mix things up, or go the opposite and use white-on-white like the middle heart. The texture speaks for itself!

I just had to try it out with felt. Totally works! What a great embellishment this is, and would even make a cute little pin!

3. Linear Crossroads Die 

You know how the Burlap Texture Die sold out immediately this summer? Well, I predict this Linear Crossroads die will share the same fate. It's similar to the burlap die in that it's the perfect background to layer behind anything, really, to fill the card without drawing attention. But, I like that it's a little more open than the burlap die, and fades more into the background. If I had to design the perfect background splash for a card, this would be it!

The Craft-a-Flower Anemone I had laying around from a prior project, so this was pretty quick to put together. While I like crisp white panels on crisp white card bases, I do enjoy the blush color framing the card. 

4. Swirl Motif Die Set

Finally, as I was looking at the Swirl Motif Die and trying to think of what direction to go with it, I kept coming back to a fancy, antique, gilded book spine. So that's what I did! Goodness, the detail on this die set is amazing!! The fact that it's two different layers opens up a wide range of design options.

I cut the second layer of the swirl die in metallic gold, so of course the shine is ridiculous! To further flesh out the gold spine look, I used some thin gold washi, a sentiment from the Dots and Boxes set, and some gold embossed stripes from the Striped Circle background stamp. 

A nested label die, some tall alpha dies, and a sentiment finish off the title of my "book".

I added pages inside with some gold thread and now I have my very own Traveler's Notebook. I feel like one of the cool kids now : ) I cannot wait to start traveling again, and am dreaming of filling my book up quickly once we're able to be out and about again.

Definitely excited about some nice staples in my collection from this release (the Linear Crossroads is an absolute must-have!)
