Altenew Craft-A-Flower: Snowdrops Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hi Friends! What a delicate flower we have to share for this month's Altenew Craft-a-Flower ... the lovely Snowdrops! I don't get a chance to see many of these where I live, but they sure are a romantic sign of the beginning of Spring.

You may have come from the blog of sweet Virginia Lu, but if not feel free to start at the beginning with the Altenew Card Blog.

Since these guys are always pure white (that I'm aware of anyway), creating the blooms is nothing more than die cutting the pieces from cardstock and adhering them together.

The leaves are watercolored in a wash of green after they've been die cut. You can certainly die cut the greens from colored cardstock, but since the rest of the flower is very simple, I thought it would be nice to introduce some color variation in the leaves.

The snow drifts that the Snowdrops are poking their delicate heads out of are made from the recently released Beautiful Begonia embossing folder. Love how it gives a lot of texture to what would normally be a large amount of flat white cardstock. And it's pretty affordable for all the different ways you'd use it.

The snow is spattered on with some white paint.

I had more of the flowers cut out, so I put together another similar slimline card with the embossed snow. This one was a little easier since I just used patterned paper, and embossed a sentiment directly on the paper.

With a flower that has such delicate parts as this Snowdrop, the new Altenew glue pen really came in handy. Especially attaching the very thin parts.

Altenew Quiet Reflections Stamps/Dies/Stencils/Inks/Embossing Folders Collection Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hi Friends! Oh goodness, there is just a little bit of everything in the new Quiet Reflections Release at Altenew this month. I have some awesome stamp and stencil sets to share, as well as some fun craft room decals, and some never-before-seen pictures of my workspace!

You may have come from the blog of Amber Rain Davis, but if not feel free to start at the beginning with the Altenew Card Blog.

Let's start with the fun and beautiful koi fish from the Goldfish Stamp and Die Set. There's a second layering stamp that comes with each outline stamp for you to easily color the spots on the koi. For this fish I stamped and cut out the body, then layered him on a gold-embossed vellum koi so his fins are transparent. SO pretty in real life with all the swirly details!

There are also some solid seaweed stamps I used to enhance the background. But I think the fish is pretty on its own too.

There are many sentiment stamps that come in this set, including this one, "You make the world more beautiful."

I love that there are three different goldfish stamps to choose from,  or to use all three. The other two goldfish stamps are illustrated from an aerial view so its easy to make an entire pond full of fish. There are aerial versions of the seaweed and plants to round out your cute pond.

Including a sentiment from Finding Nemo just puts this set over the top! I'd love to make a full-on aquarium card next. My son just got one of those new neon lighted aquariums and is picking out some new fish for Christmas. This set will be perfect for his card!

I have a lot of males I need to make cards for, and this new Dots and Boxes background stamp is great for filling the background in a non-feminine way.

The sentiment is embossed in bronze for a change, with some bronze glitter paper making the Fine Frames Diamond die looked like it's dipped in bronze. Vellum leaves behind soften up the edges a little.

One of my favorite floral cards ever is this slim line card with the new Tranquility Rose stamp, die and stencil coloring set.

What makes it so fun and easy for me to color is the Tranquility Rose coloring stencils. Honestly, if there were ever a set of coloring stencils for your to get, THESE ARE IT! Maybe you haven't tried coloring stencils before, or think they're just a nice-to-have addition. These are MUST-HAVES! All the complex coloring and shading of the main flower, smaller flowers, leaves, etc. are all done with this set of four stencils for each layering color.

It really makes the set come to life!

I didn't want to cover up too much of the florals with a sentiment, so I embossed the sentiment in gold on vellum and then curved it outwards around the bouquet of florals.

Did you notice I punched a small hole in the vellum, and added a small flower thru the hole? It serves to hold the vellum in place, and to make it a little more interesting.

I've had this card on my desk since I made it and just love looking at it! The highly detailed coloring stencils are really a must, and make you look like you're a coloring wizard.

Finally, I don't think I've shared pictures of my workspace before ...

I really had a fun time deciding how to use the new Craft Room Decals! Covid lockdowns have given me time to really get my craft space into shape, and now that I have a good home for everything, it must be labled, of course! I added scripty "envelopes," "paper," and "ink" labels to the sides of my top shelves.

The decals are a great size for the shelves, and for any letters that extend over the edge of the shelf, you can just bend them over the edge and they stay beautifully.

I also got some awesome new pantry organizers from TJ Maxx/Home Goods that are the perfect size for the large sized stamp sets, like the build-a-flowers. So excited to get these out of the tattered shoe boxes!! The decals look great on the front, labeling this as "stamps."

The decal set also comes with flowers, how perfect to add this to my bin of build-a-flower stamps?!

These decals are removable and easily repositionable, so if you change your mind and decide that the flowers are better suited for other things, no worries! Just peel it off and stick it back on the sheet it came from.

I changed my mind several times and had no issues putting them on a new surface. For example, I had several flowers and leaves on the glass pane of my office doors. I thought they got a little lost up there, and since the light was so bright coming thru it lightened their pink color.

So I removed them and put them around my door handle hardware instead. I'm happy to report they are just as clingy the second time around! Such good news for indecisive and non-committal decorators like me.

These florals are like a happy welcome for me every time I go in my craft room. I like how they look with my purple desk chair too (another favorite find from Home Goods).

You've made it! Thanks for checking out my cards (goldfish, masculine dots, and tranquility rose coloring stencil) and craft room decor!

Altenew Build-A-Flower: Build-A-Flower: Parrot Tulips Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hi Friends! The first of the month always brings a bit of excitement as we get to debut the newest chapter of the Altenew Build-a-Flower legacy, and this we are featuring Altenew's Build-a-Flower Parrot Tulips!

You may have come from the blog of Nathalie DeSousa, but if not feel free to start at the beginning with the Altenew Card Blog.

BAF: Parrot Tulip

This set comes with one giant bloom, which has so much detail it looks like it could be featured on a designer wallpaper. Even with all that detail, however, notice that there are only three different layers you need to stamp to get that full look. This means less work on your part, and one fewer ink shade you need to come up with!

Let's take a look at what the three layers look like when they are stamped together:

Doesn't it look like a damask pattern? All these peachy/coral colors make me happy.

These sentiments also come with this set. Each of them can stand on their own, but I wanted to "go for broke" and use all three of them. Why not, right?

White satin sequins and some Positivity washi tape are also added.

If you ever think you're running short of patterned paper (ikr, but hey, it could happen!) then take a walk to your bookshelf, and pick your least favorite book to sacrifice. You could also pick up spare books at yard sales for 25-50 cents if you can't bear to cut into your own books. I like how book pages are mostly neutral colors and really let your florals shine.

Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Spider Mums & Craft Your Life Apron Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hi Friends! So glad you've stopped by to check out the newest Paint-a-Flower set from Altenew, and a brand new item!

You may have come from the blog of Keisha Charles, but if not feel free to start at the beginning with the Altenew Card Blog.

Paint-a-Flower: Spider Mums

The Paint-a-Flower set this month is very detailed so I thought it would be a great candidate for some no-line coloring, and could end up making me look like I have amazing drawing skills!

So that's pretty much what I did. My strategy for this one was to stick to one color for the petals

I loaded up my brush with watercolor, started at the center, and flicked to to the end of the petal. Then I worked my way around the center, skipping a petal or two each time, doing the same thing until I needed to add more paint. That seemed to be a good way to get different shades of color for each petal and not having them all clustered next to each other.

Once the petals were done, I used a darker color purple in the middle to make the budding part of the flower stand out more. Then added color for the leaves, spattered some gold on, and stamped a sentiment from this set. This illustration reminds me of a botanic print - very classic and beautiful.

Craft Your Life Apron

In addition to the Spider Mum set, Altenew also has a new crafting apron available for purchase! I think this would be great to wear if you're hosting any sort of crafting classes online or perhaps in person at some point. Not only does it have gorgeous signature florals, but the fun "Craft your Life" tag line is prominently displayed. You just feel artsy wearing it!

If you've been enjoying the Paint-a-Flower series, you may want to consider getting a subscription so you don't have to worry about ordering in time, and you save a bit of money as well.
