CFC #94: Chipboard

Any chipboard pieces or letters hanging out in the bottom of your drawer? Or in a glass jar with lots of dust on top? Or ... gasp ... STILL in the packaging from 5 years ago?!?

Well now's your chance to make use of them. This week's challenge at CAS-ual Fridays will give you lots of leeway, the only requirement is that you use chipboard somewhere in your CAS project.

No chipboard? No worries! Just make your own chipboard embellies like I started doing...

My original plan was to make my own chipboard embellishment by using the thick backing sheet that is packaged with packs of patterned paper. However, after running it through the Big Shot with a couple shims, I still was not getting a very clean cut. The backing sheet was thicker than the die. It definitely could have worked with a little help from the scissors here and there. But, then I started thinking that it looked pretty neat as-is in the sheet - it had dimension on the edges from the die, yet was flat with the rest of the sheet.

So it stayed, and I colored the elements in the sheet. White chalk for the birch (to get a more natural, varied effect) and American Crafts Galaxy markers for the ombre "hello." I only had a red and orange marker, so I had to mix colors and chalks to get the transition from dark to light.

"H" - red with a layer of orange
"E" - orange
"L" - orange with a layer of yellow chalk
"L" - yellow chalk
"O" - yellow chalk with a layer of white chalk

The sentiment is from CAS-ual Fridays Calm and Gentle.

There's a sweet prize for the winner this week - a $20 gift certificate to the CAS-ual Fridays store! Sure hope to see you in the gallery.

Thanks for looking!
