Papertrey March Blog Hop (Framed Sequins)

One more sequin card for the March Papertrey Blog Hop.

This one uses the Framed Out #12 Die to highlight several strings of ombre sequins.

To suspend the sequins, I built a shadow box frame with die cut layers.  Ardyth Percy-Robb's creatively layered snowflake was still in my head, so thought as long as I was building layers, I might as well make them ombre too. The thick frame allows the sequins to wiggle around freely if you touch them.

For a split-second I considered using invisible fishing wire to sew the sequins with. And then I voted in favor of my sanity. That stuff is so darn slippery. Double stitches of plain white thread seemed to be enough to hold the sequins. I used washi tape during the process to keep the strings in place on the frame.

And mounted it all on some glitter paper, just in case there wasn't enough bling! I'm linking this up to the Moxie Fab ombre challenge as well. And, I'll take Ardyth's advice and head over to LIM ... beads on an abacus? Sure!

Thanks for looking!
-Kelly

  1. How cute - where in the world do you come up with these clever ideas!?

  2. And another masterpiece! You're on fire with those sequins, girl!

  3. Booming inspired! I would have never thought of doing that! You are a creative force of nature. (If you want to run for public office, you'll have my vote. You think far enough out of the box, to be able to 'fix' anything - even our government.) Love how your glittered background helps your sequins shine. Thanks again (already) for choosing to share that wonderful mind with us. What a treat.

  4. Oh my word! Loving all the shimmer and the shadow frame is brilliant (a great next step on the layering idea!) I think that this should also go in LIM's challenge this week - I know they're sequins, but you've used them like beads on an abacus (who, me? An accountant?! How could you tell?)

I went out and bought some sequins, but then did not get the time to use them before the blog hope:( I was at my local Michaels, and they had square ones and butterfly shaped, that was all?! I guess it is a new trend, so they were all sold out of circles:(
