My boys are going to a birthday party about every other weekend, and for quite awhile I've been looking for a quick, yet personalized, boy
birthday card that could be reproduced easily.
Usually I have my son draw a picture for the
outside of the card and then sign the inside. But as a card-maker, I
always felt a little guilty for not making something a little bit more involved. The Silhouette was my answer. I wouldn't mind spending time designing something if I knew it could be easily altered, cut and assembled as needed.
This card is the result. It's a double-negative die-cut birthday card. The "9th" is cut out of the purple, "happy birthday nathan!" is cut out of the light blue, and it's all mounted on dark purple. For the next 10 birthdays, I can just change the name on the cut file, and cut out another set. I still had Logan draw a picture for the birthday boy, but we mounted it on the inside this time.
If you're interested, here's the Silhouette cut file for this card.
Sharing this with the Moxie Fab Challenge to emphasize the negative.
Thanks for looking!
-Kelly
This is so neat Kelly! Fantastic design~
ReplyDeleteWow this looks fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the file!
I just upgraded my software to the designer edition today...now I am even more impressed!
Sooo clever & awesome! I only wish it were available as an .svg as I won the Gazelle and gave my old Wishblade that I used Studio on to a friend.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty easy to recreate if you want to try. One layer is the 9th, then for the second layer of text I designed it on top of the 9 to get the spacing right. I drew two ovals to match the curves of the 9 and then used those for text paths. Then just moved the second layer over for cutting.
DeleteSo brilliant, Kelly, fantastic colours and the double negative cutting is sooo impressive! Anita :)
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome idea :) card looks perfect, you are so creative. I am glad I am ur follower
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun and clever design. And, I love the fact that you can customize it, even down to their favorite colors. Watch out--you will become famous for this, and your boys will probably get even MORE birthday invitations.
ReplyDeletePerfect for so many reasons!
ReplyDeleteThe more I see the Silhouette used like this, the more I am drawn to it - the sad truth is I won a Cricut 2 years ago & have used it twice, so am hesitant to invest in another electronic diecutter.
Oh, this is VERY cool!! :) Love it!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, taking it to the next (or is it the previous) level! This is awesome - the best part of cardmaking is making kids personalized cards - he'll treasure this for sure!
ReplyDeleteTotally awesome card, very funky and although the Silhouette helped you it still has all the hallmarks of being signature you - out-of-the-box, quirky, and awesome!
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, if you hadn't entered this into the Emphasize The Negative Challenge I was about to slap you upside the head! Y'know, in a friendly enouraging way, of course.
Great idea! I am also a hey, take this piece of paper that I folded in quarters and color something on it kind of mom....and usually it's about five minutes before we have to go.... This is a much better idea!
ReplyDeleteLove it! The design is awesome!
ReplyDeleteVery cool card and great idea to save the files and adapt them for each child! You are so clever!
ReplyDeleteDeep. You've gone deep, Kelly! Perfectly personalizingly deep!!
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty awesome Kelly! Totally love the personalized design as well as the double negative aspect!

ReplyDeleteI would never have thought about creating a double negative card and now that I see what you did, I'm thinking "but of course!" ;o)
Thank You Kelly!
Kelly this is awesome! Love that you can reproduce for future cards too! Makes me want a silhouette....just still not sure how much I would use it? So hard to decide....maybe for Christmas this year! :)
