Valentine's Day Banner Card [MIM #51]

This week's Make It Monday challenge from Papertrey Ink is to make a dimensional banner on a card. And why not wrap it around a heart for a cute Valentine?

Super easy, just cut a strip of paper 1/2" wide and wrap it around on an angle. Papertrey Ink has a good tip to make a pencil mark on the two sections you want to stamp your sentiment on so it's not confusing when you unwrap it later to do your stamping. The background paper is from an old dictionary I found at a flea market. Hello, lifetime supply of background papers for $2!

The owl is from the PTI Tiny Treats Valentines Day stamp set, well kind of...

The original image is too small for this scale project (it's meant to be used on tags) so I drew a larger size and colored it in. I know, I am way behind the curve with the Copic markers, still using the old school watercolor pencils. [if anyone knows where to get a good deal on the Copics let me know!]

The sentiments are from PTI Tiny Treats, and I used the Sunshine Impression plate on the red felt heart.

I like the banner idea, and think it's pretty versitle. I always enjoy having something dimensional on a card. Thanks for looking!

  2. great job with your banner. i wasn't really loving this technique, but i like what you did with it! for the copics, there are a couple of options. joann.com almost always has them on sale 30-40% off (so about 4.75ish). if you order them when they have free shipping, it's a pretty good deal. even if you have to order a minumum amount, it's worth it because you typically want at least three markers in the same color family anyway so you can blend. when michaels first started carrying copics, they had them on sale one week for 25% off, and there was also an extra % off coupon (don't remember the amount though) that made them pretty reasonable. i've scoped out the prices in different places, but these are the lowest i've seen. i also sometimes just grab one in michaels if i can't find something i want and have a 40% off coupon. i wouldn't recommend building your copic collection one at a time (because it takes to long), but once you have a core group of markers, it's a nice way to slowly add more. hope that helps!

    1. Thanks so much for all your information on the Copics! So glad you shared it. You have a good point on not relying on the 40% M's coupon to get the markers one at a time at first. That is usually my tendency, to go for the sales vs. what really makes sense. I haven't checked joann.com yet so I'll go there next. Thanks again!

  3. I had no idea you could emboss felt! What an amazing idea-and wrapping the banner around the heart is equally so-I can't believe you hand drew the owl, either...can you tell I am blown away by your project? Love it! :-)

    1. Thanks Tracey! If you glue paper to the felt before embossing you'll get an even better impression.
