I honestly had no idea how much I needed to add dinos to my stamp collection until playing with these guys. This smaller set is Dinomite Halloween and it features this adorable dino who loves to carry things (the coordinating die will cut out the little dino hands for you!)
Although the accessories are mostly Halloween related, you can have this guy carry any of the smaller items from the All Inside Bear, or many of the Leading Lady sets. Here he's got his trick-or-treat jack-o-lantern, which I've enhanced with some glossy accents.
The other must-have dino set is Dinomite Christmas. Here the dino/Godzilla has taken it upon himself to decorate the entire city for Christmas!
I love that the mini string of lights happened to fit the buildings from the Big City Die just perfectly! And the thought of Godzilla coming down Michigan Ave in Chicago with a giant ornament in his hand (wearing a Santa hat) ... hahaha!
I loved that scene so much that I decided to make another one, only this time I was going for the look of a Far Side cartoon ... do you see it? The Fa Ra Ra Ra Rawr looked like a caption so I thought I'd build the scene by tracing the Landscape and Big City dies, and then stamping the rest.
It felt odd making a card with no color on it, but I really like how it turned out!
Either one of these Christmas cards would be perfect for a man or a teen!
Although Dinomite Christmas comes with lots of fun Christmas accessories, there are four dinosaurs in the set, making it useful all year round. Here's a birthday card I made which would be perfect for many of my little nieces or nephews. I watercolored the dinos with the Catherine Pooler Inks.
The hilly terrain is from the Landscape dies and the "grass" is from Wonky Backdrops. I also borrowed some party supplies from Backyard Party and Everyday Doodles. Did you notice the secondary sentiment in the bottom right corner? Raptor present for ya? Hahaha!!!
My other favorite set from this release is Spaceout, which has this fun rocket, as well as an assortment of planets, aliens, space ship, stars, and of course cute sentiments like this one!
I wanted to make the rocket ship really blast off, so I created another wobbler, like the ringing phone from the latest Altenew release.Wanna see?
Just wrap some wire around a pencil 6-7 times, then tape one end to the card and the other end to the rocket. Done!
One of the things that really sidetracked me was not the mechanics of the card, but who should be driving the rocket ship! I interviewed several different candidates, as you can see on the bottom of this photo, and gave them all a turn to drive ...
Here they all are. All inside bear, the chipmunk and owl from Backyard Party, and a dog from the Leading Lady Dog Lady set. What do you think, did I hire the right captain? I liked the chipmunk's enthusiasm with his fist in the air, but that owl looks awfully smart and capable too.
Also, did you notice the background is a new die called Constellation Background? Just perfect for a scene like this, and so many others. One final note on this card, the wire spring collapses flat so you can easily stick this into an envelope.
I had another idea for this card using just the bottom portion of the rocket ship, and the "look at you take off" sentiment.
The rocket ship is watercolored with the Catherine Pooler Inks, and the planet is just a circle die that's been inked and stamped with some of the circles from Wonky Backgrounds. I think those circles make great craters on the planet!
The punny sentiments in this set really help make it quite versatile, from planet-ing a visit, to taking off, and five other super cute sayings I haven't seen before. I will definitely be using this set a lot!
Here's a quick reminder of all the cards from this post ... lots of fun in the craft room represented in this photo!
