Hi Folks! I've got another card with one of my favorites, the cross stitched globe from Ellen Hutson's United We Florish Stitched Together! Would you believe that I set up all four of the different stamps (for each of the different colors) on my Misti back in May when this was released and I still haven't taken them off?! That's right, I haven't used my Misti in three months! I loved the globe so much I kept thinking I need to make just a few more cards. And experiment with a few more color combinations.
This time I wanted to see how it would look on kraft paper, to get an old-world look (pun intended!) I'm a big fan of white, but I really kind of like how it all looks on the kraft. Especially the brown water portions.
Like a real metallic stand would be, I embossed this stand in gold. Love the warm gold with the browns and rose/pinks.
To echo the roses on the globe I chose the Bed of Roses die to make a mat under the kraft panel. The edges are trimmed to give it a loose feeling. I picked the deep rose color from the rose to use for the sentiment so it would all coordinate. Finally, I used a white gel pen to draw a box around the panel.
Hi Folks! I don't recall seeing this good of a sale for the United We Flourish stamp sets at Ellen Hutson before ... 30% off now through Sunday, September 2nd!
I went through the Notable Nest archives and dusted off a few of the projects I've made with these sets ... although some didn't have too much dust since I just posted them a few weeks ago!
My favorite, the Stitched Together cross stitch globe made in conjunction with Waffle Flower.
If you end up getting this set, make sure to bookmark my post at Ellen Hutson which has a lot of tips, including how to fix your image if some of the stitches are misaligned, and 4 different ways to use this stamp and die set.
Since this set of stamps has been on my misti since May, I made a bunch of different color combinations for you to get some ideas
Another twist is to go for the vintage globe option, with tan water. These two cards shows it stamped on white or kraft paper.
These are cute on their own, but also coordinate with the other MFT dog and cat sets.
Super simple coloring technique ... no shading required!
The last set I have is Better Together by Hero Arts. There are 10 birds in this set, along with a house, fence, and branch so your birdies can hang out and rest.
Really tweet! ; )
There are a few other sets in the 30% off sale if you want to check it out. Just make sure to use the code UWF30 at checkout.
Hello Folks! I'm thrilled to be a part of Rubeena's Crafting Anniversary bash ... a time for all of us to celebrate creating amazing things, sharing them with this beautiful community, and supporting each other in our various crafting journeys. You should have arrived here from the lovely Emily Midgett. If not, feel free to start at the beginning with Rubeena's blog.
I briefly met Rubeena at Creativation in January this year. After I got back home I looked her up and just couldn't believe all the inspiring projects she's posted on Instagram. Hello, color! Since then I've been a follower, and half the time I'm commenting on her magazine-worthy photography (and her props, including my all-time favorite prop I've ever seen for card photos ... a wrapped circle of variegated pink/mauve felted balls.) The other half the time I'm trying to do math to figure out how she has the time to make so many masterpieces on such a regular basis! Rubeena is truly a gem, as her blog tag line implies : ) My crafting story began as a little girl learning at her grandma's feet, and has continued pretty constantly to this day. I started blogging to have an outlet for my crafting. Sometimes I was so over-the-moon excited about a project that I'd be busting at the seams to share it with someone. Usually it was my husband since he's the only one around after midnight (I'm an insane night owl), but his polite "oh, good job's" were never what I was really looking for. Now that I've been blogging for almost 7 years, it's hard to imagine not being a part of this community. It's gone through a lot of changes in that time, with the online idea-sharing crippling the paper crafting magazine industry (I miss walking into Barnes & Noble and showing my kids the latest Paper Crafts magazine ... they were really young and thought I was famous!) and with the move to Instagram where it's so much easier to scroll through a bunch of photos than read long blog posts. The one thing that hasn't changed, however, is all the ridiculously supportive people in our community. I've been lucky to meet many friends in person, and hope to meet some more coming up soon in January for Creativation 2019!
Alrightly, on with the show!
I knew immediately that I had to make something in honor of Rubeena's lovable style for this celebration. It had to be bright and colorful. It had to have lots of ink. It had to have white sentiments on black cardstock. It had to be photographed with nature elements. It had to have a great sentiment.
This card continues my experimentation with Brutus Monroe's collection of Ken Oliver's Color Burst powders. Talk about fun!!
If you haven't played with these before, you have to see what happens when you sprinkle the powders on watercolor paper that's been pre-moistened! Super fun to watch. You never know what you're going to end up with.
Once I sprinkled the color, I misted the paper a few more times to get the water to pool on the paper. This way I could tilt the paper back and forth to create that movement in the color. I was really happy with the colorful panel, but I didn't know what kind of sentiment to put with it, until I came to Lea Lawson's blog on Rubeena's Day 1 hop. She used a sentiment from Winnie & Walter's Kindness with Evelin T set that I hadn't used before, modifying the "your" stamp to be "you." I knew this was the ABSOLUTE PERFECT sentiment for Rubeena. She really does scatter kindness wherever she goes : ) Plus, it seems to fit with the scattered nature of the card's coloring.
Lea also embossed gold onto vellum, and I'm reminded at what a wonderful option this is. The semi-transparent vellum doesn't attract too much attention, and the surface of the vellum allows for the smoothest embossing ever! Just look at that gold!!
More buttery gold embossing, and let's take a minute to highlight those sequins! Also from Brutus Monroe, these are bottle cap sequins with fluted edges to catch the light and sparkle. But, they're flat so are a good option when you want to keep the bulk down.
Here's a closer look at the sequins, but it's also neat to look at the color a little closer. See the fun pops of green in the yellow areas? You just never know what you're going to get! INFORMATION
This hop is epic with
more than 70 guests and over $1,000 in sponsored prizes! Not only are
we celebrating four years since Rubeena first discovered cardmaking but
also crafting in general. This industry is made up of wonderful
individuals who are creative, inspirational, kind, and incredibly
supportive! Hop along so you can learn about why we create and how much
joy it brings us!

Hi Folks! I am so very honored to be a guest designer for the Pinkfresh blog!! Kinnari, the amazingly kind, funny and generous owner of Pinkfresh, messaged me late one night after I had just returned from the Imagine Dragons concert. I had just been a few feet from Dan Reynolds for the past 3 hours, and I was probably pretty incoherent as I replied to her wonderful offer to guest design.
That was one of the best nights of the summer ... Imagine Dragons front center, and Kinnari asking me to be a guest designer : )
Anyway, I went nutty over the Pinkfresh Studio Fancy Floral 1 and Fancy Floral 2 dies. Once I sat down to craft, I couldn't get up, and before I knew it I had NINE cards in the process of being made.
This card has the background colored differently, with a white layer on top. I also left a strip of the paper uncut for the sentiment.
Here I just snipped away the middle of the die and added a gold sentiment.
This is perhaps my very favorite card of the bunch! Both layers are multicolored on a black background, with the smallest sentiment.
.
Up close : )
More dissecting the die ... this time to remove all the individual flowers and leaves!
They are just loosely gathered, like they would be in a bouquet, under the sentiment.
These cards simply have two different solid colored die cuts layers on the card. So many different possibilities!
How about purple vellum over a blended ink background?
You can cut the die down to use it as a layering piece behind a smaller panel.
Or use the dies as a stencil to spray ink on?
So many different ways to use the Fancy Florals 1 and Fancy Florals 2 dies! Check them out at Pinkfresh Studio and my full blog post at the Pinkfresh blog!
