New Essentials By Ellen - Everyday Punnies

We've got another Essentials by Ellen release that's available now!! The two sets I'm using for these cards are Everyday Punnies and Everyday Doodles, and they're truly sets you could use every day. There are so many cute little illustrations, and the best thing, there is a hilarious pun or two to go along with each one of them!

This one uses the cactus and two of the punny sentiments to create a totally custom card for a friend who has been by your side forever.

This card, and actually the next two as well, are all created with one stamp and the same formula ... stamp one main image, and then stamp the image again all over the background. Makes things a lot easier when you're making multiples. The tiny flower I drew and cut out ... don't forget you can always add your own embellishments!

This sentiment on this one just CRACKS ME UP! And it's so darn true. Who doesn't need to be reminded of this every now and then? I don't recall seeing this sentiment before. I'm telling  you, this set is just full of gems.

Again, just stamping the main image and then stamping it again (in a lighter color) all over the background of the panel. The base of the card is a stencil I made using several cuts of the Skinny Stripes Die.

I'm not a drinker, but I love taking photos ... and I can't wait to send this to my cool friend who shares my love of photography. She will totally get a kick out of this one!

It's super clean and simple, which is perfect for letting all the attention rest on the fun sentiment.

If I didn't have Spring Break coming up, I may have walked away with a dozen cards! I had so much fun creating with this set. Stay tuned ... tomorrow I have two more cards featuring two different sets that are also just released. If you'd like to jump right to all the new sets, here's a quick link. Hope to see you then : )

Thanks for stopping by!

Altenew 5th Anniversary Blog Hop Day 3 + Giveaway

Big congratulations to Altenew for turning FIVE YEARS OLD!!! I still remember, way back when, Tasnim telling me she has plans for something really exciting ... and then all of a sudden there is this huge company that has totally taken over the papercrafting world! You just knew it was going to be a runaway success from the very first release. I couldn't be more happy. It's hard to believe they've come this far in only five years. Absolutely can't wait to see what the next five years will bring : )

You may have come from Simply Cards & Papercraft, but if not feel free to start at the beginning of this Anniversary Blog Hop with Altenew.

I've been getting in the habit of making a few extra items while I have all the supplies out, so there was a small pile of leftover blooms sitting on my desk from the recent Build-A-Flower releases I've been a part of. In the past I'd tend to either save these leftovers for a rainy day (which never comes) or just plain forget about them. With my conscious effort to use it or lose it, I present to you the "Frankenstein bouquet" on my card ... a few lovely flowers arranged together from several different sets.

This bouquet is composed of a pink/purple Japanese Mum, two of the Sweet Violets from this past week's release, and a green Peony and berries from a blog hop last year. Above are the original cards I made from each set.

As with other floral arrangements, I tend to only adhere the flowers in the center to the card base, which allows for the petals to be curved outwards.

I do love a formal bouquet of matching blooms, but there is also something to be said for a casual gathering of flowers that makes you think they've been just brought in from the backyard and stuck in a vase in the kitchen. Effortless, yet beautiful. Just like beach hair : )

Altenew Build-A-Flower: Sweet Violet Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

It's such a pleasure to join this spectauclar blog hop featuring the newest Bulid-a-Flower release from Altenew ... the Sweet Violet! You may have just come from Janette Kausen's blog, but if not feel free to start at the beginning of the hop at the Altenew Card Blog.

One of the reasons I just love the Build-A-Flower series of stamps is that it's so quick and easy to create a beautifully detailed flower just by following the formula of layered stamps (with or without the coordinating die). Before I knew it, I had a huge pile of adorable purple violets that ended up as a sweet set of cards.

This is the first card I created ... very simple, just arranging the flowers in a cascading arc with the leaves filling in the spaces on the side.

The sentiment, one of the many included with the set, is stamped on the base panel with the key word embossed in gold.

Now it's time to use up the leftover violets!

For my next card I clustered the violets in the center of a card that I stenciled the Aztec Motif on the base.

For all of my cards today I just adhered them to the card base in the middle of the flower. I used my fingers to gently curl the petals up so they would stick up and add lots of dimension to the card. Bonus ... there's no extra bulk for mailing!

This card is similar, with the violets clustered on one of my favorite Altenew stencils for backgrounds, the Flowing Drops Stencil. This time I left the leaves off the card and just focused on the flowers.

For the yellow middle of all the violets I used Nuvo Drops to get some shine and even more dimension.

Finally, to use up the rest of the violets, I thought it would be pretty dramatic to adhere them to a black card base. Especially since I manually cut them out and eliminated the white outline that you get when using the coordinating die.

I curved the sentiment on the acrylic block before stamping and embossing it. I'm especially loving how the green leaves look against the black.

I'm so glad I took the extra 10-15 minutes to put the remaining violets on additional cards while all my supplies were out, and while I was "in the moment," creatively speaking. These three are all very similar to each other, and would make a nice set to gift someone.

In addition to the Sweet Violet Stamp and Die bundle, you can also order the Stamp, Die and INK bundle (at a 5% discount) to eliminate any worries about having colors that fit with this flower.

Subscription Plan
There is now a monthly subscription plan for the Build-A-Flower sets! When signed up, you are guaranteed a spot in the monthly Build-A-Flower releases (which often sell out) and will receive the stamp and coordinating die set at a specially discounted price ($35.00 →$29.99). See the Altenew site for further details.
