Working with Background Layering Dies - Spellbinders Wistful Windows

Hi Friends! I'd like to share some quick options for working with large layering die sets like the Spellbinders Wistful Windows Die Set.

Wistful Window Die Set

This set comes with a lot of different dies that are all different sizes to allow for layering, but sometimes I still have a hard time visualizing how they operate independent of each other.

So the first thing I do with large sets like this is die cut all the options, lay them out, and see what combination(s) I want to work with. This shows all the different die cuts, aside from the largest rectangle that I just used for the card base.

You can layer all of these separate panels of paper together, like I've done with this card. I like the bulk and the thickness that all those layers create. However, another option is for you to use just one piece of paper and die cut all the layers on that same paper ...

I made a sample here for you to see. It's not as thick, and doesn't use as much paper, but it's not as easy to layer different colors underneath without doing some fancy masking.

Here you can see the different colors layered underneath. I could have added a third color under the largest frame die, but I liked sticking with the graded yellow/orange and light/dark green.

A close up of the pretty sunflower from the Hello Sunflower Stamp Set ... it was originally part of a kit a few years ago, and now it's available for individual purchase (and on sale!!) Can't go wrong with a center filled with mini sequins, especially for a sunflower with its textured centers!

Both of the sentiments are also from the Hello Sunflower Stamp Set and look fabulous embossed in gold on vellum. It's a very happy card, with the colors, the gold, and all the thick layers. I can't wait to give it to someone special!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
