Altenew Wildflower Paper Crafting Collection Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

 

Hello Friends! I'm super excited to share something I haven't for quite awhile, a scrapbook page!! And once I dusted off my photo printer, cleaned the print nozzles, and found the photo paper, it came together fairly quickly with the new Wildflower paper crafting collection from Altenew.

Although black and white photos are really popular in scrapbooking, I still love using colored photos. The only problem is, quite often the colors in my photos don't go with the color scheme of the scrapbooking products, and then I get discouraged from using them. Not the case here! So happy with how well the muted, yet fun, colors in this Wildflower Collection go with my photos.

It's such a luxury to reach into a package and pull out ephemera that instantly works with your photos. 

This layout documents the final party we hosted at my husband's grandma's and father's house before the closing that happened this week. It's been quite an emotional ride these last few months, and it couldn't have ended in a happier and more fulfilling way, with lots of guidance from above.

Framing key photos was a snap with the embellishments in this collection. And how well they go with the photo is so satisfying!

The Tall Alpha Dies call out the address our family has loved for over 60 years : ) And check out all those new little fishermen!! How cute are they?!

Big flowers are great background fillers and add to the happiness of the day. I added colored cardstock to the back of the Fun Stuff die cut to further customize the embellishment.

Two strips of the patterned paper border the main section of photos, which is all mounted on a coordinating paper in the same collection. Also wanted to point out how much I enjoyed using the retractable eraser putting this layout together. It's a nice size/shape to hold in my hand.

Since I'm mostly a card maker, I thought I'd make a card with this collection too!

I picked a few embellishments to feature on the patterned paper and cut along the pattern at the bottom.

 

Easy as can be! And plenty left for many more crafting sessions!

Pinkfresh Studio March 2021 Stamp, Stencil, Die, and Hot Foil Release

 

Hi Friends! Since I've been on the Pinkfresh Studio design team this year, each release I wonder to myself, how can they top this one? And then a new release comes out and I think yep, they did it again! Well, there is a stamp/die/hot foil combo in this release (actually two different versions) that will be a game-changer for your sentiment production!

What is this amazingness, you ask?!?

The very second I saw the Celebrating You stamp with seven different sentiments, and its coordinating die THAT CUTS THEM ALL OUT AT THE SAME TIME (!!!) I told Kinnari, the owner of Pinkfresh Studio, that I'm going to make a rainbow of die cut sentiments and surround myself with them! And I did!

After basking in these glorious sentiments for quite a bit, I broke out a new fancy storage page (a.k.a., my kids' baseball card page protector) and put them safely away. It will be such a joy to finish designing a card and have all of these sentiments at my fingertips. And not have to feel like I'm using too many of them ... this may be a lifetime supply : )

After my rainbow-making spree, I turned to my favorite sentiment "color" of all time, embossed gold. And because it's Pinkfresh Studio, you know there is a hot foil alternative! I thought it would be fun to compare the two and share the results with you!

Here are the uncut sheets so you can see what they look like before die cutting. Can you tell which is which?

The embossed version is on the left, and the hot foiled version is on the right.

 
Both very pretty, but different. I have to say that for thin-lined font it's a toss-up for me. The hot foil may have a slight edge in appearance, but I'm still more comfortable with embossing, and it's not something I have to get out of my chair to do. 

But for the thick, bold font like these sentiments, I do prefer the hot foil. It's easy to get smooth, even coverage with the foil, where embossing a font this thick does leave some bumps (unless you do a couple rounds of embossing, which takes awhile and leaves room for shifting and error.)

So let's see some cards, right?!

This is a classic case of not wanting to mess with a good thing. With a rainbow of sentiments at my disposal, it would have been a crime not to use as many as possible!

As a recipient, who wouldn't want to read all those nice things about yourself, right? Pile it on! I used a couple enamel dots from the Some Days collection to fill in the gaps. Originally I had six of the sentiments on the card, but it looked a little plain, so I ended up swapping one out in favor of some Curvy Leaves in the corner to break up all the text.

This card features the new Heartfelt Thanks Slimline Stamp and Layering Coloring Stencil Set. So easy to put together!

I went out of my comfort zone and tried yellow flowers, red buds, and pink leaves.

To add some interest, I added white Curvy Leaves Dies by cutting a slit next to the flower and slipping the stem underneath. This way they stand up nicely without needing any foam tape and can mail flat.

The main sentiment is die cut from gold and tucked a little behind the leaves. I appreciate all the different secondary sentiments included in this Heartfelt Thanks set, including this one that I split into two different lines. I like that the message is specific to help you customize your card for the occasion.

Altenew 7th Anniversary Blog Hop Day 3 + Giveaway (over $1,400 in Total Prizes)

Happy Birthday Altenew! What a huge deal it is to celebrate your seventh year with you, and all the other wonderful designers! You've come a long way to dominate the card-making space with your layered dies/stamps, and classic florals. I can't wait to share some projects in your honor today!

Jumbo Picks Layering Die

Both projects I'm sharing were made using one set of these giant Jumbo Picks layering dies. Not sure if you noticed, but the large gray sections are where the metal comes in one piece, which is the beauty of this set. All the thinking is done for you! Each die is meant for a different color of cardstock. Just cut your colored cardstock into rectanges, and send them thru the machine!

This time, however, I used felt! Want to see?

I was so impressed at how smoothly these dies cut the felt, even with the long thin sections on some of the light pink layers, and the lime green stems.

I know dimension is the hot thing now with layered dies, and the thick felt is a super easy way to achieve that. Look at all those lovely layers! You really want to reach right in and feel all those hills and valleys in the roses.



I debated on the background for awhile and finally settled on another piece of felt. The whole card is fuzzy! For extra security I stitched around the margins of the felt base, including the die cut "hello" sentiment.

 
The nice thing about a felt card base is that the felt dies stick nicely to it on their own. I put a little tape adhesive to make sure they stay put, but before that it's easy to move things around to find an arrangement you like.

Although I put all the die cuts all one card, you could spread them out on a couple cards, or use them for something entirely different, like a felt wreath. 

In fact, I had one felt flower remaining that begged to be used for something other than "leftover bin decoration." I looked across the room, saw the beautiful frame my good friend had given me for my birthday, and thought it would be just perfect ...

How lovely a single flower, and a leaf cluster, look in a frame! The letters are from the Tall Alpha Lowercase Die Set.

I cut a piece of canvas material to size, put that in the frame, and then arranged the elements just like I would on a card base. The paper alphas are glued directly to the fabric, and the felt flower and leaves are adhered via tape adhesive.

I can't get enough of how pretty these look in felt. Totally deserving of this awesome frame : )

Making cards is a joy, but sometimes is fun to try something else too. I think putting anything in a frame instantly makes it more permanent and likely to be on display a little longer.

 

The Garden Picks Layering Die Set is more pricey than the other layering dies due to it's enormous size, but I truly think you get your money's worth when you end up with so many flowers and leaves from one pass of the dies. This slimline card and framed greeting all came from one set of die cuts.

I've reached for this set several times already to make quick layered flowers.
