Fun Interactive Cards with the New Spellbinders Whimsical and Wild Sets by Jane Davenport

Hello Friends! I was super excited to be able to play with two of Jane Davenport's new Whimsical and Wild sets from Spellbinders ... the Brave Bear and the Horse Hug sets. So in love with the artistry of these images. They do all the work for you!

Let's take a look!

This image totally brings a smile to my face. The idea of a young girl channeling her spirit animal who's big and brave, and who is there to carry her when she's afraid, is so empowering. I think this would be great for a graduation card, for someone who's facing a health challenge, or for anyone facing a tough decision.

I gave the little lady rainbow hair to add to the whimsy. The sentiment is tucked under the bear's paw, like he's carrying the message. An exacto knife cuts around his paw nicely.

I really wanted to make another card with this image. Along with this image, this card features the same sentiment on the front of the card.

I originally colored her dress orange, but I thought it was a little too close to the color of the bear. So I colored another dress, cut it out, and adhered it on top of the orange dress. And added some tiny polka dots.

You may have guessed that this card has something else going on ... and when you pull the tiny flower at the top (in the middle of all those awesome stars from the next set) ...

The bear pops up and carries the little lady! Not only that, but another inspirational message is revealed (that font!!) I stamped a trail of lady bugs who are also on their way to the "unknown."

I've been having fun making these types of pop up slider cards since I found a baseball card in this style during Spring cleaning and tried my first card. This one turned out just as well. You can really make this style of card with any sort of die cut or fussy cut image. The long flowing hair is a nice feature to be standing out on this card.

This card features the super dreamy Horse Hug set. Knowing the fantasy-style card I wanted to create, I ended up turning the horse into a unicorn! A slim triangle of glitter paper from my scrap pile is all it took.

That sparkle! I extended the length of the horse so the sentiment would fit along the bottom.

The galaxy background is the result of smooshing ink onto the card panel a few times, and then sponging ink around the edges. I embossed the stars in white, but they ended up being too bright and competed with the white horse too much. So I blended navy ink on top of the embossed stars as well. Some flicks of gold and white paint round it all out.

This card is a little different as well, as the unicorn I fussy cut folds out and is the stand for the card. The mechanism is just a strip of paper folded into a box.

This collection of cards was really fun to make! I don't have many whimsical stamp sets like this, so I was really looking forward to trying them out, and wasn't sure if I'd be able to make cards in this style.

Making the interactive cards like the pop up slider, and the unicorn that swings out, add fun elements to the cards.

Here's a quick view of the sliding pop-up!

All in all, I'm really happy to have tried these whimsical stamps. They made me feel much more artsy than I am. I also love how large the images are and cover the entire card. I will definitely be making more cards with these two sets!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. Ooh, I am not a “whimsical” design lover either, but I really love how you designed these cards! You brought the stamps to life.

  2. You did a beautiful job showing off those stamps, Kelly. Turning the horse into a unicorn really fit the image well and the slider is so unexpected and fun.
