An Idea for Next Year's Christmas Cards ... What Do You Think?

Just got an email advertising 250 business cards for $10 and it hit me ... next year's Christmas card!!

The whole photo Christmas card thing has been perplexing me this year. I absolutely love the Tiny Prints and Minted cards. Every one of them I receive ends up on the side of my refrigerator. The thickness really does it for me. And the super matte finish of the photos. I thought so hard about how to get that for my Christmas cards this year, but the thing is, paper that thick doesn't work in most printers. I'd have to get them printed somewhere, and after paying for that I might as well have just ordered from Tiny Prints in the first place.

Soooo ... I'm hoping the thick business cards just might do the trick. What do you think? The tiny size would be a novelty. I could make a library card pocket out of Christmas paper to slide them into. Or, punch a hole through the top of the business card and use some cute ribbon to make them into an ornament.

The photo above is what my 2013 Christmas cards would have looked like in a business card size. I think I'm going to try it!

Thanks for looking!

PS. I just put all of my posts for the next month in draft ... I'm going to warn you, there are quite a LOT of them. Especially for a non-daily blogger like me. Tons of fun and exciting things coming up!!

  1. Ooh interesting idea!I love all things tiny and cute so this is just adorable to me! I always prefer something handmade personally but having made 100 of those this year I know how it is to do that!!

Can't wait for the avalanche of posts in January! Sounds like fun!! :D

  2. The best part of this idea is that you had it now! You have a whole year to figure out if you like it or not. Vista print is so cheap you can order them, play with them, and throw them all away if it doesn't work. I think it's another brilliant idea, personally. There may be a LOT of these in the mail next year! Hope 2014 will be another year of creative genius and family fun for you and yours, : )

  4. You are one organized girl. All your posts ready for the month? What an accomplishment! As for the cards - it's a cute idea but some of us would have trouble reading your message on something so small. ;)

    1. First of all, NO, only two posts are done for the month. I just have all the shells out there, and I have to admit it's a little intimidating!! Secondly, yes, the tiny text may be a hurdle for me. I was thinking my tree would have much less information on it, so that would help. And I would make it taller and skinnier so it would fill the space (leaving off the sentiments on the bottom). But I would definitely need to get a proof to see what it looks like. Thankfully, knowing now what I want to do instead of December 15, 2014 will work in my favor : )

  5. What a fun idea! I love the idea of ornaments! After 20 years you could decorate a whole tree with them. And you are such an overachiever.....month in advance. yikes! I'm curious to see what it is that is keeping you so busy with posts though.....

    1. Hahaha, I should have clarified, only the SHELLS are out there for the next month. Contents are yet to materialize!! I would never in a million years be that organized or on top of things.

I'm thinking with the left over 150 business cards ... garland for the tree : )

  6. I love the idea of them being made into an ornament!! Half of the photo cards we get from family have lots of tiny pics on them anyway!

  8. I'll say it again, you have the most innovative mind of any crafter on the web, Kelly! ALWAYS thinking! This idea is genius! I enjoyed the prior post, too, of your 2013 card and putting them together and seeing them all ready to be shipped off. Although the idea of adding one more address to that long list will make you groan, I'd love to exchange addresses with you. If you'd like that, just email me.

Thank you for a wonderful year of inspiration! I wish you all the best for a crafty, happy, and healthy new year!! Cheers! Mwah! Darnell

  10. Great idea for next Christmas. You are so smart for thinking ahead. As I write this, it is already January 3, and we have not even gotten our photo for this year's cards. Talk about lame. Every year, I am practically sending Valentines, or nothing, and I always resolve to be early. May I should do business cards too???
