Hello Folks! Welcome to the blog hop celebrating the release of Altenew's latest Build-A-Flower set, the Stargazer Lily! You may have come from the blog of Keeway Tsao, but if not feel free to start at the beginning with the Altenew Card Blog.
The gorgeous Stargazer Lily is a staple in many floral bouquets because of their very large, long-lasting, and beautiful blooms. I love seeing several buds in my arrangements because I know I'm in for a couple weeks of enjoyment. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the burnt orange pollen that falls and stains everything once they're past their prime, right?!
Well, I've got good news for you.
These Stargazer Lilies have all the long-lasting beauty, but will never-ever shed staining pollen! Whoo-hoo!
Here's a clean and simple card to start with. I used a textured off-white paper (actually it was from blank stationary that I found when cleaning out my junk cabinet in the kitchen last week) that's die cut from the largest die in the Nesting Labels Die set. Instead of cutting off the top, I folded it over and adhered it to the back of the card. Why not use the whole thing?
The stargazer lily fits the space perfectly, which makes this a great candidate for a clean & simple card. A metallic gold cut from the Handwritten Hello Die is no doubt simple and classy.
After only using one of these beautiful lilies on the card, I had several more that needed a home.
This card features not only three of the lilies, but both of the layered leaves, AND a non-layered floral image which is perfect for filling in the background of these die cut florals. Such a smart image to add to this set! After stamping the open florals on the kraft card base, I colored the petals in white.
The b&w sentiment is from my favorite sentiment set EVER, from any company, Sentiment Strips. If you don't have it already, what are you waiting for? Twenty-five different sentiments in the perfect font, perfect size, and perfect range of occasions.
For this particular card, I wanted to make the overall sentiment more substantial than the original "sending you sweet birthday wishes" so I split it into "sending you" and "sweet birthday wishes" and then spelled out "SUPER" with the Tall Alpha Dies. At first the card looked too busy, but I was happier once I used a strip of vellum to back the letters with.
Either way you use these ... with a lot going on, or with a really clean design ... these stargazer lilies are bold and beautiful. There are four layers for the petals, and two layers for the stamen in the middle, so that's SIX different colors you can have on these blooms. That's a ton of detail, all pre-planned out for you.
